The east coast of Australia at the moment is experiencing the worst drought for the past 100 years.

If we dont get substantial rain soon Sydneys water supply will dry up within the next two years. Currently the dam levels are at 36% capacity and dropping every day. There are no contingency plans in place, but the government is looking at alternative forms of water supply including desalination plants.

Out west it is so dry that there is no ground cover left only dirt. When the westerly winds come up this year I expect huge dust storms to come over the east coast.

The weather at the moment feels more like spring with temperatures during the day sometimes being 4 degrees above average. The ground is very dry and buildings are starting to feel the strain of the dry ground with cracks forming. April and May were the driest on record.

El Nino is being consistent with it's predictions and drought a once rural phenomenon is now reaching the inner cities.

Sydeny is drying up, and fast.

From what I am reading this is not only happening on this continent. Other countries are also experiencing less rainfall.

Where has the rain gone? This has huge implications on our food supply.

Could the tilt in the earth after the huge Indonesian earthquake have affected our seasons? Could the unusual amount of solar storms over the past few years placing a strain on the earths magnetic field?

I think something has changed, and I dont think it is only affecting the planet, but also the inhabitents.

Take a look at how your feeling and what is happening in your life at the moment. DO things seem to have accelerated?

Things feel different. Things look different. What do you think?

Where has the rain gone?

It's in Vanuatu, that's where it's been hidding all this time! But nothing unusual really.

I thought Australia was a 'dry' country? I mean, often we hear a bout bush fires close to Brisbane, so I never thought it would be unsual to have a drought over there. Not nice, of course, but not so unusual?

So how do you think Australia is going to deal with this new issue? Import water from overseas? Turn salt water into fresh water?

Hey IG..yeah it is a dry country but it is the worst it has been for 100 years. SO bad infact that we have now been placed on level 3 water restrictions, and heavy fines apply if you dont adhere to them. This means not watering your garden only on certain days and not filling swimming pools or washing your car. But it will get worse than this Im afraid.

I cant remember the last time it rained here.. could be over a month ago and then it wasnt anything worth writing home about.

Importing water I dont think will be feasable, so they are looking at piping it from other parts of he country and looking into desalination plants. Which will take 2 years to build, so they better pull their finger out.

Hill sides near where I live are so dry they are brown, and I can never remember them being like this.

It is supposed to rain on Saturday, lets hope it does and it makes a difference.

Oooh, sounds really nasty PB... I hope people respect the restrictions, a swimming pool in times of drought is really silly indeed.

I really hope it does my friend. I'll try and blow some of our heavy clouds your way, what do you say?

Nah, it is over here on the east coast of the USA!  We had a drought about 3 years ago (for 3 years).  Since then, MOther nature has been making up for lost time!

It's been raining here too on and off. But the sun and the heat is back this week with a vengeance! It's been nothing shy of 80 degrees F all week! Now there's a tropical depression in the West Caribbean! Ah the hurricane season....more rain, and wind and everything that comes with it. So we definately won't be complaining of a drought on this side of the world. I've got to get prepared with supplies!
