Sumatran Super Volcano?
Published on March 31, 2005 By Phoenixboi In Blogging
Scientists are warning that the recent mega quakes that have happened along the Indonesian coastline might be a pre cursor to the eruption of the worlds largest super volcano - The Toba : Link With such an eruption we would be facing the disruption of human society that has never been seen our lifetime.

It is quite unimaginable the loss of life and the amount of destruction that could happen, forcing the entire planet into darkness..sounds apocalyptic, but quite possible and in the near future. Considering as the article suggests super volcanoes erupt in 2000 year cycles.. the Toba last erupted 73 000 years ago. Link

Hey IG.. havent you been feeling the eath shake recently??

I think the 2000 year cycle is off by a couple of digits.  Otherwise, one would have happened at the time of Christ and there is no mention of it in historical records.

According to the Yellowstone site, that one erupts about every 600k years and is 40k years over due http://www.solcomhouse.com/yellowstone.htm

Fascinating theory tho.  As Earthquakes increase in quantity and magnitude preceeding a volcanic eruption, we may know more soon enough.

I had not heard of any, and indeed the site I linked to really only talked about one relatively minor earthquake 9 years ago.  COurse they say that Old Faithful is a result of the magma, so if he gets irregular, watch out!

I thought Yellowstone now was closed to visitors? and the deaths were deers.

No, they closed it to snow mobiles under Clinton, but Bush re-opened it for them.  And as far as the deer, since they just re-introduced wolves there (after about a 100 year absense) that would not surprise me.

p.s. The plural of deer is deer. And you can get me back anytime as I am a terrible speller!
