Once again the Australian government is showing it's hypocracy when it comes to the War on Terror and its fight for Democracy.
Here is a news article from the Australian Associated Press:

PM coerced by Beijing, says Brown
March 19, 2005 - 4:46PM

The Australian Government has been coerced into ignoring human rights issues by a belligerent regime in China, Greens Senator Bob Brown said today.

At a conference of Chinese democracy advocates in Sydney today, Senator Brown called for business and government to demand human rights be considered in negotiations for a free trade agreement.

He said the Chinese Government was a dictatorship and "a big dog" that had jailed thousands of people who had spoken out for democracy or religious freedom.

"Its belligerence already has silenced our Prime Minister, our Government and many businesses," he said.

"They simply won't even raise the issue of democracy and therefore it does threaten freedom of speech and democracy even in our own country.

"Where the Prime Minister is coerced into silence by a belligerent Beijing regime, that means its reach is outside the country as well as inside it."

"I think it's reprehensible that Prime Minister Howard is going to China in two weeks but does not intend to raise the issues of democracy or freedom.

"He's there to promote free trade but not free human discussion on democracy."

Pro-democracy delegates from all over the world hope to come up with a white paper by the end of the three-day conference.

Senator Brown said the best way to provoke change was through business.

"I think with a free trade agreement on the table every business which is looking at China has to put the issue of democracy with their contact with Chinese counterparts," he said.

"Otherwise we have dollars before democracy."

Here once again we are shown how greed and money surpasses all morals when it comes to politics. Our country should have the balls to stand up for what it believes in. To stand up for the people in China who are constantly challenged by the rule of communism and human rights abuses by their government. Unless that really isn't what it believes in and is therefore hypocritical when it comes to the alliance it has with the USA.

Ok Helix good points... so why not boycott China and its products, economic sanctions etc.. See what has happened is that most countries now rely on China as much as they rely on us.
