There is alot of controversy at the moment here in Oz about Turkey digging up the bones of the diggers in Anzac Cove in Turkey. People are up in arms calling it a disgrace and a desecration of "sacred" ground.

For thos not in the know ANZAC cove in Turkey is a place called Gallipoli where the soldiers from the Australian and New Zealand army fought with the enemies in World War One.. it is a place very sacred to the Australian People as lots of loives were lost. It is where thousands travel each year to remember the fallen Aussies who died in World War One.

So the Turkish people are now digging up most of ANZAC cove trying to build a road, that will help ferry the tourists that go to visit ANZAC cove.

What brings to mind here for me is we have right here in Australia been digging up the "sacred" Aboriginal grounds for two hundred years now, building our houses and roads and whatever on now, and there is no fuss made by the people here about it. They just continue to disrespect the Aboriginal people.

Right here close to where I live in 1998 there was a huge flood which unearthed a skeleton of a "kuradgi" or medicine man dated back 6000 years ..yeah thats right a 6000 year old skeleton! complete with artifacts. It was a time when the coastline of the eastern Australia was transformed by a tsunami as well. There is alot of history here. Yet at the same time we have developers trying to develop the land with a housing estate right on where this grave was found with many more skeletons unearthed. If it was a place in Egypt it would be seen as major archaeological significance, yet here in Australia it is being allowed to be developed by those with loads of money and greed with no respect for the cultural or religious significance for the Aboriginal people.

So they are digging up some of the bones of the diggers in Turkey. So the people here are making a huge fuss over it, and it's significance to the Australian people. Well maybe karma is coming around. How do you feel now people knowing it is happening to you?

Great Article.

Question as an aside - What do you think about John Farnham not being allowed to sing according to the PM of NZ at the Anzac services. From what I heard he wasn't going to sing any of his stuff but traditional songs from that era.
Helen Clarke (is that her name) said she hadn't heard any of Johnny's music (which i find really hard to swallow considering who John Farnham IS) and she didn't think it was appropriate

Thanks Trina...

Well I think Helen should get her head out of her bum... how can she not know who Johnny Farnham is? .. although.. no offense but she is New Zealander. Wouldn't you think PM Howard would speak up in his defense and allow it to happen..I mean come on.. As if he would make it into a rock concert!

I think it is a shame he isnt being allowed to sing there especially seeing he is an australian icon of song.. (even though im not a huge fan) but I think he would do it justice.

My thoughts exactly!!

And why does the NZ PM have more say then the Australian PM??

Just as an update on whats happening... Link
shows how the australian government asked the Turkish government to upgrade the road in the first place and is now up in arms about it being done. I wish Alexander Downer would tell the truth as it happens first up rather than letting it get to this.
