I have a few questions..

Will JU last forever?

Is it just my machine or am I noticing a slowdown in uptake of articles? I've also been noticing a slowdown in page refreshes lately? IS this a common thing? or is JU slowing down?

I wouldnt have a clue what it takes to run a website and its upkeep. It would be interesting to know what goes on behind the scenes on JU and how many hours and people it takes to run a website such as this.

Do websites eventually run out of space?

While I'm not Draginol or one of the other admins (who are the people you would need to get a definite answer) I believe I can answer this one. Recently Stardock gave Wincustimize.com an overhaul, and that has caused some slowdown and such here at JoeUser.com. Since they are aware of the slowdown I would assume they are fixing it as well. Draginol has stated he plans on improving JoeUser.com so I would be surprised if things didn't get better. The space issue is likely irrelevant, disk space is relatively cheap these days. As for forever, nothing is forever. But JoeUser.com will likely stay around as long as Draginol wants it to (ie, as long as he can afford to keep it around). And yes, it has been slow (or not loading at all) for me the past few days, and I've talked to some people having the same problem. Your not alone

And it is causing me severe withdrawal symptoms. My husband is goint to lose it if JU doesn't start working regularly again. My constant whining and complaining is killing him.

Ironically, half the time it's been JoeUser causing the problems, although you can't necessarily tell this - they use the same database, and run on many of the same machines, and so if one of them falls over, it can make life very hard on the other site. On the other hand, it means I can post tutorials over at WC and then they appear here - Link - so when it works well, it's all good.

Yea, actually the problem is that JoeUser.com, as it has become more popular, is putting more and more of a burden on the master server's database.  And when we re-launched WinCustomize, it too was written with some of the same problems JU had.  We've taken care of many of the most serious problems on WC but we haven't brought those changes to JU.

So at peek times, JU is down which of course prevents new articles from being made.

Thanks Guys for the responses...makes sense now. I was thinking it had something to do with my connection, or heaven forbid that JU was crashing! Could this happen? What would happen to our articles if it does and should we back them up somehow??
