Well with the finale of Aussie Idol on Sunday night came the winner announcment and that was Casey Donovan. Im glad that Casey won even though I think Anthony has a great voice. I think Casey's win would help her out more.

I think this years show was much more of a competition with some great talent on display. There has been alot of controversy about the Idol show with entertainers decrying it as a load of shit, but it captured alot of the countrys heart and some dreams have been fullfilled.

There is some great talent out there, and shows such as Idol are a great platform for people who would in normal circumstances not be able to reach the heights.

Casey is a 16 year old grunge girl from the western suburbs of Sydney. The show showed her develop into a beautiful young woman with her personality and her beauty shining.

So congratulations Casey!

I'm very happy that Casey won (especially with Courtney and Chanel out)

I have a question you don't have to answer if you don't want to. Anthony - do you think he's cute? Do you think he's gay? Do you think he's like a gay icon (I've spent a little time on the AI message boards and these are some of the topics floating around)

As a straight woman I can't see the attraction in him - I much preferred Daniel (might have something to do with him somewhat resembling my husband though) and Dan was really cute - but he didn't remeind me of anyone.
Anthony to me came across as too rehearsed. And I'm glad the "disney" song will be released by Casey - I couldn't stomach Anthonys version.

Hey Trina

umm yeah I think Anthony is very cute. A couple of friends of mine have seen him out in the gay scene in Melbourne and swear he is gay but he denies it. So dont really know. Seeing he was a part of the johhny Young school I can understand him being rehearsed. Where as Casey had a raw talent and what she sang came from an untapped talent, and that is why I think she won and deserved to win.

The competition this round was much harder to pick this year, last year I think it was clear that Guy was the winner as I really dont like Shannon as a singer.

I hope to hear more of Casey and the music she loves to sing rather than the "disney" song she had to put out, which doesnt do justice to anyone.

Agree totally!!

Personally I think Guy and Paulini had the most talent - I liked Shannon as a person/performer but I love Barnsey and bonjovi, powderfinger etc.

It was heaps harder to pick this year. I was so surprised to see Emilia get as far as she did, I couldn't believe Angie and Dan left before she did. I'm pleased Hayley got to come out of herself and show what she could do - I LOVED her (in the arms of the) Angels
I fell in love with Courtney when he sang Spinning Wheel, and Daniels You Raise Me Up.

The whole time I was convinced Ricki-Lee was going to win - then she stuffed up the Beatles and was gone -
Oh question---Do you think a muscian/performer is a allowed to use "I don't know the Beatles" as an excuse for stuffing up (Anthony, Casey and Ricki-Lee all had stuff ups and none of them were "familiar" with the Beatles.
How can it be possible for someone wanting to work in the music industry not to know the Beatles - they're one of the biggest influences on modern music.
Casey likes the Offspring right - hello does she think they came up with "why don't you get a job" music on their own. - it's very clearly Oo-bla-di-oo-bla-da

Definately NOT! the beatles was one of the major influences like you said and I dont know about the talent around today (hey im only 31) but I am constantly changing the stations on the radio to get to listen to what I like. I cant stand the rap stuff that is around at the moment. It doesnt have talent and doesnt display music to me.

Although my music taste is fairly varied.. from classical to grunge.. I dont like listening to people sing who have had their voices synthasized in order to sell records...aka.. jessica simpson.

As a cynical 'real' musician, I'm often asked by friends what I think of the Idol phenomenon. My standard response is "Crap", but that's just because, for the most part, I don't think my friends would understand my answer.

I am not a fan of what my wife calls Karaoke Radio i.e. the derth of supposedly talented singers doing cover songs. Shannon Noll and the bloody woeful "What About Me" is a prime example of this. I know so many good songwriters with bunches of original material who can't get their songs heard for love nor money. All BMG and the other majors are interested in doing is taping into the pockets of the average listener with songs they will instantly recognise and 'connect' with.

Having said this, I am pleased that a girl like Casey won. It just proves that the general public don't give a rats what the talent looks like, but more what they sound like. And Casey does have an awesome natural voice... As for the Beatles issue, its not hard to believe but hard to swallow. I recently met a mid-20's person who said she did not know a Beatles song from a Stones song. She was born in 1982 and both her parents were, and are, hardcore punk music fans. Still, I can' imagine anyone living in the Western world who is not at least familiar with a few Beatles songs.

Cheers,

Maso
