You know China must have zero unemployment.

It seems as though everything is made in China these days. What's the go with that? Clothes especially. I imagine a huge sweatshop full of workers making everything that us Westerners wear. What if we refused anything that was made in China? Shouldn't we be buying things that are made in our own countries?

Well I dont think there would be much to choose from. Seeing nearly everything these days is made in China.

hey Trina... yeah i heard that last night.. hmm doesnt sound like a good thing to me. The chinese govt is doin some pretty dodgy stuff lately especially with their energy resources. SO what would happen if they went to war with Taiwan? Would we then not be in alliance with the US? It's funny how they are a dictatorship and we are so in favour with them.

Apperently, we are in favor of money.

Interesting also how our dollar is up in value at the moment. last i looked it was over 78US cents... hasnt been that for a long while, while China is selling their US interests and sourcing their energy resources from countries such as Brazil and Iran.

Hey, Phoenixboi, check out the information at http://www.globalissues.org/TradeRelated/FreeTrade.asp. The site provides a fairly good description of what globalisation and free trade as defined under the neoliberalism banner. Like most information sources, I'm sure some of the information is subjective at best.

Cheers,

Thanks Maso! very interesting stuff..
I remember when I did Globalisation at Uni, reading books such as Naomi Klein and John Pilger.. they opened my eyes alot.

Yeah, Naomi and John both have lots of good things to say, but I don't necessarily support or agree with them all the time. Same as Mike Moore. Sure, it is good to have people in the media who are asking the hard questions and challenging the average. It doesn't necessarily mean they're right all the time. Its all about balance, I guess.

and it is good to be informed about both sides of the story as well.
