Just when you thought you were safe eating those Red Smarties ..think again!

What do you know... the food colouring in Red smarties is made from crushing red female cochineal beetles found in central America.

So who cares?

Do you check the labels on your food to see what is in the fine ingredients?

This reminds me of when I was a vegetarian.. and that was for 15 years of my life. I used to read all the labels, peruse restaurants for vegetarian meals and even watched what I wore. One of the vitamins I was taking and still do had traces of porceine in it..that's right pig. What would the nutritional value of it be? I dont know, but apparently it is in there to make the pill stick together.

So there is the bodies of dead female beetles in our Smarties, porciene in our vitamins, fish bladders in our beer... They say we are what we eat.. I really wonder sometimes what it is that I am eating. But sometimes I just eat, otherwise I would be forever heaving on the thought of a stew of innerds that was being processed while I was eating my burger.

I haven't eaten "Smarties" in years and I don't know why? I ate a lot of them when I was young, especially when I went to the movies. Now, I have a taste for Smarties. Thanks a lot.

Seriously though, vitamin suppliments are held together by a derivative of plastic.

One more ditti: If most people could see what goes into the manufacturing of a, hotdog, they would never eat one again.

Did you have to mention this? Now I can't eat red smarties. I'll have to stick to the green ones. But what if they're green on the outside but very very red on the inside?

Let's put it this way... I saw a movie about how they make fish-sticks when I was in school and I went right home and ate fish sticks. I've eaten beef not half an hour after seeing a cow get slaughtered on film.... you are going to have to do a lot better than that!
