How to beat the dodgy preference deals and get TheGreens’ John Kaye
into the Senate

This is a warning to the progressive community in NSW. The balance of power in the senate could be won by right wing religious fundamentalists or other conservatives because of unprincipled preference deals by the ALP and Democrats.
Voting Greens in the senate is the safest way to ensure that this does not happen.
Please distribute this email widely amongst your networks and contacts.
The ALP and Democrat preference deals are set to make it very difficult for The Greens’ candidate in NSW, John Kaye, to be elected to the Senate. The Greens can still get John elected, but only by maximising their primary vote.
Both the Democrats and the ALP have preferenced Liberals for Forests ahead of The Greens in the Senate in NSW.
The Democrats also preferenced the Christian Democrats Fred Nile and right wing religious fundamentalists Family First ahead of The Greens.
The ALP split their preferences with 1/3 of the value of an ALP above-the-line vote going to Fred Nile ahead of The Greens.
ALP and Democrat preference decisions risk giving the balance of power in the senate to the religious fundamentalists conservatives.
The Greens made principled preference decisions that went to progressive small parties, the Democrats and then the ALP before the Coalition and the right-wing parties. A vote for The Greens is a safe progressive vote.

For John Kaye to be elected to the Senate, The Greens need 14.3% of the vote. As the preference flows to the Greens have been reduced The Greens must now maximise their primary vote.Labor and Democrat voters should be advised not to vote above-the-line. An above-the-line vote for either of these parties risks electing a right wing religious fundamentalist senator and/or Glenn Druery from Liberals for Forests.
The safest vote is The Greens above the line. But if voters can’t do that, then they can vote below the line, filling in every square and putting the Greens second. Voters below the line need to fill in every square a few errors and their vote is informal!
The Senate is likely to play a key role in stopping legislation that damages human rights, privatises Telstra or weakens environmental protection.
What you can do to maximise the Greens primary vote
1. forward this email to all your contacts
2. talk with your friends, family and work colleagues and urge them to
vote Green in the Senate
3. work on a polling booth on election day
4. give out Greens election material in the coming two weeks

Thanks Phoenixboi,
I had not thought much about the senate but I will definitely be voting above the line for the greens now (I probably would have anyway.)

Yeah after reading more about it all I think it's really important the way we vote and who are votes are really going to will make a big difference for me.

I've never understood why anyone would vote above the line and allow a POLITICIAN to decide where their vote is going to go! Greens voters should also vote below the line because I must say that I dont wholly agree with their preference deals either.
